I'm curious, I almost always have a book in my hand.....what is or is anyone else reading at this time.....

I'm currently reading, The Art of War by Sun Tzu and

the Icewind Dale Triology by Salvatore. Just finished Mindhunter By John Douglas of FBI fame.

any takers?

None of my Author's have a new book out right now (stupid $#@$%#@$#@ don't they know I'm jones'n?) and those would be - Terry Brooks, Terry Goodking, Robert Jordan & David Farland.
But I'm going to buy/read The De Vinci Code...so that's what it'll be soon.

I am currently reading a collection of Bertrand Russell's essays (Why I'm not a Christian and other essays on Religion and related subjects).

Robert jordan puts out some good fantasy titles.

Check out his Wheel of Time series from the very first book, it's quite enthralling.

Yes, they are nice, but the last 3 or so books have been disappointing to me. When was the last time we heard about Perrin, or Mat? More than just a chapter, at least. Meh... he's getting too old.

Have you read the "crossraods of twilight" I think it's called? That one was all about them.
Rand literally made one appearance in the last book.

I do have to agree though, I want to see the original 3 working together again.

I did recently finish the Thomas K Martin triology starting with "A Two-Edged Sword" about a college student who does a sleep experiment and wakes up in a sword and sorcercy world. Highly recommended.

If yoyr reading Iced windale I suggest reading all the books in the Dark Elf (Drizzt) series by Salvatore.

Probably my favorite series of all time. I was also a big fan of the Amber Diceless RPG. After that, my friends and I mostly stopping using dice in any RPG. I just finished reading Dead Witch Walking, by Kim Harrison. I liked it. It's a modern alternate world story, similar in some ways to the Anita Blake novels by Laurell K. Hamilton, but with a lot less in the way of graphic descriptions of crime scenes or sex. The main character, Rachel, is an earth witch and former I.S. (Inderland Security) agent trying to earn her independence and establish her own business as a private "runner", basically a P.I./Bounty hunter, with her two partners, Ivy, a living vampire, and Jenks, a pixie (all of whom worked at I.S. and quit together). You sign a contract with I.S., and you don't quit under penalty of death, unless you can cough up enough money to pay off your contract. Ivy does so, but Rachel doesn't, and the story of this first book revolves around Rachel's attempt to get her contract paid off while avoiding I.S. assassins and trying to catch a drug runner at the same time (which is how she's planning to pay off her contract). It's a fun little tale. I'm reading the sequel, The Good, The Bad, and the Undead next.

Yes I plan on it...that Salvatore is really good at fantasy depiction. Unlike some other fantasy writers...i remember read a book called Waterdeep...and the author (dont remember who) used the words "...and threw a fireball..." to depict the casting of an inticate spell. it bugged me to no end and although I finished the book could not at enjoy it.

I would for you non fiction types the John Douglas books. He is the father of FBI serial criminal profiling....his works are chilling to say the least. HIGH>LY RECOMMENDED.

Well, I am currently reading Oxygen which is about the importance of oxygen in mechanisms of disease, in life and in evolution.

If you like good fantasy literature I'd recommend R. Scott Bakker's books The Darkness that Comes Before and The Prince of Nothing. George R. R. Martin's series A Song of Ice and Fire is quite good as well. For some non-traditional fantasy Neal Gaiman produces fabulous books, including Neverwhere and American Gods. For those who like the young adult-style (Harry Potter?) Garth Nix wrote a fabulous series with books entitled Sabriel, Liriel and Abhorsen, and Phillip Pullman wrote a good series called his Dark Materials.

PLEASE don't write this off as you don't recognise the authors - I have read all of Salvatore (yup, the Crimson Shadow stuff too), Jordan, Goodkind, Tad Williams, Feist and so on, and while they are reasonably good I am recommending Bakker, Martin, Gaiman and Nix over them.

The Waterborn and Blackgod by J. Gregory Keyes
The Thomas Covenant series by Stephen R. Donaldson
The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan
Nearly all of Salvatore's works
Anne Rice's Vampire and Taltos novels
The Forge of God and Anvil of Stars by Greg Bear I believe...
George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones series (wish he'd get off his ass and finish the next one)
The Ender series by Orson Scott Card
The Pip & Flynx series by Alan Dean Foster
All the Dragonlance books (Time of Twins, Tale of Twins, etc.)

If you are interested in modern day, supernatural horror with a tongue-in-cheek approach, try the Bureau 13 books.

For what it's worth, I think of the Chronicles of Amber (the first 5 books) are the greatest fantasy books ever written.

The book I'm currently listening to is called Altered Carbon. I too am eagerly awaiting the next George R. R. Martin book, a Feast of Crows.

Haven't read anything in years except for internet websites and graphic novels / comics.

In the past I did read:

Every Stephen King novel ever printed. (I still read them on and off today the newest ones.)
Terry Brooks. All of his series, about Kingdom For Sale / Sold, the endless fantasy books about his world of the Elfstones, Druids, and whatnot. (I have to say, they are my personal favorite out of anything I've ever read in my entire life.)
All the Robert Jordan books up to a certian point. I think I have about 6/7.
I forget the auther name that King was writing under, but I own most of those as well.
I do also have a small section of Magic The Gathering books, the Dark Elf trilogy(sp?), and all the books of... *Racks brain.* I can't remember rigth now. =\ David Glemmal(sp??) is also an author who puts a ton of character into his books which makes them so enjoyable, read one of those.

Have a few "Choose your own adventure" books as well.

Basically I like horror. Its my personal thing, from movies to books. Real horror, things that play with your mind, not "A big slimy swamp creature comes out of the water and kills him." type of horror. Things that build up, then BAM, it hits you like a ton of bricks.

Been reading the Runelords series.

My reading interests vary greatly...horror..true crime...mythology..fantasy..classics.

I do like the "prey" series for crime type of books and Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books.
